The U.S. homeland security department offers a number of bright careers. This institution was established in 2003 in response to concerns about terrorism, and is mainly composed of the departments of other government agencies, and in a single Homeland Security banner. Some critics believe that the powers of the Department of Homeland Security too far-reaching consequences, and that the agency mired in bureaucracy and the systematic violations of constitutional rights. This agency is the Cabinet-level department, as well as the third largest Cabinet department, after the Ministry of Defence and the Department of Veterans Affairs. As a member of the Presidential Cabinet, Secretary of the U.S. Homeland Security should be confirmed in the Senate hearing, before taking office. The primary mission of the Department of Homeland Security is to protect American citizens and the American homeland at the domestic level. U.S. Secretary of the Homeland Security should be able to respond to acts of terrorism, natural disasters and other catastrophes, with support offices in the department, such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Coast Guard and border control. Control of American borders is also an important aspect of the Department of Homeland Security, as well as monitoring potential security threats.
